WASHINGTON – Today, following reports of a deadly shooting in Glendale, Arizona, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) released the following statement:
“For too long, Americans have been forced to watch as gun violence affects every corner of our communities–schools, movie theaters, places of worship, and local restaurants like El Camaron Gigante. Now, as a first-term Congresswoman, it’s happening in the district I represent.
“Commonsense policy reform to regulate guns has broad, bipartisan support. It’s long past time we stand up and do something.
“I am without words to express the sadness I feel for the loved ones of the Arizonans taken from us.”
Ansari is an original cosponsor of the Federal Firearm Licensee Act, as well as legislation that would codify the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and sent an official letter registering deep concern over the pausing of grants under the Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI).
