Ansari’s House Resolution in support of free speech calls out Trump Admin
WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) celebrated Disney’s decision to bring Jimmy Kimmel Live! back to air after canceling the show as a result of direct threats from the Trump Administration’s Federal Communications Commission Chair, Brendan Carr.
Last week, Ansari introduced a resolution, signed by more than 115 House colleagues and the Writers Guild of America West, in support of free speech and in opposition to authoritarian attempts to silence critics of those in power.
“As the daughter of immigrants who fled an authoritarian regime, I know all too well that it’s comedians who are silenced first. This was never just about one person. This is about whether government officials can weaponize their power to intimidate and silence voices they don’t like,” said Rep. Ansari. “Our democracy depends on the ability of journalists, comedians, and everyday Americans to speak truth to power without fear. I will not stop fighting to make sure that freedom is never taken away.”
