Ansari Blasts Republican CR That Will Hurt Arizonans

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) slammed Congressional Republicans and those who joined them to pass a partisan continuing resolution that would cut a blank check to Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and slash funding for programs that serve Arizonans, from housing assistance to veterans benefits.

“Today, the Senate failed to meet the moment. By not stepping up to block this Republican CR that will quite literally take food from families in need and funding from veterans who served our country, they’ve let down the American people,” said Rep. Ansari.

Ansari, united with House Democrats, advocated for a clean, 30-day continuing resolution to keep the government open and give Congress time to reach an actual bipartisan funding deal.

“I thank House Democratic Leadership and my House colleagues for standing united against this measure,” continued Ansari. “The fight does not end here. We need to come together with a concrete plan for what’s next, and stand firm as the party that actually works for the people.”

The Republican CR:

  • Cuts $23 billion in veterans benefits, including healthcare for veterans exposed to toxic chemicals and burn pits
  • Cuts $2 billion in projects that ensure the safety of our airports, railways, roads, and ports across the country
  • Eliminates $40 million in funding for over 70 programs that help children and families
  • Cuts over $700 million in rental assistance for working families, meaning that tens of thousands of families could be evicted from their homes
  • Funds ICE and mass deportation efforts
  • Fully cuts State and Tribal Assistance Grants
  • Freezes new investments in the IRS — hamstringing the agency’s ability to work with tax-filers and hurting enforcement of the law against wealthy tax cheats and large corporations
