PHOENIX – Recently, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) met with a Phoenix resident Edder Martinez who was struggling after being placed on unpaid leave while awaiting renewal of his DACA status and work permit. After receiving assistance from Ansari’s office, his renewal was expedited and successfully approved.
Ansari’s meeting with Edder comes amid rising uncertainty for Arizona Dreamers, as DACA-related detentions increase. Despite having no criminal records, many are being detained following a new directive from the Department of Homeland Security that allows the detention of DACA recipients without clear cause.

“I am really grateful for the office of Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari. Recently, my work permit expired and I was unable to return to work for several weeks. Those weeks were incredibly tough on my family, especially because I’m the main breadwinner. However, thanks to the support of Ansari’s office, I was able to renew my DACA and work permit, which allowed me to get back to work and support my family,” said Phoenix resident Edder Martinez.
“I am so glad that my office was able to step in and ensure that Edder didn’t have to take more unpaid time off, which would have made it even more difficult to support his family,” said Rep. Ansari. “In Congress, I remain committed to fighting for a permanent solution to protect Dreamers and provide them with the stability and security they deserve.”
AZ-03 residents in need of assistance with federal agencies are encouraged to reach out to Ansari’s office. Visit ansari.house.gov or contact her Phoenix office by phone at (602) 956-2285.
