WASHINGTON—This weekend, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) skipped the inauguration of President Trump and was in Phoenix to host an immigration roundtable and volunteer alongside her community for Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.
“I spent the weekend in our district, taking immediate action to prepare for the harmful and divisive policies we’ve already seen from the Trump-Vance administration, especially for immigrants and mixed-status families,” said Rep. Ansari. “I came to Congress to fight Third District Arizonans– I will always stand up against policies that harm them.”
On Saturday, Rep. Ansari hosted an immigration roundtable to hear directly from school board leaders, superintendents, nonprofit organizations, and labor unions about the potential impact of Trump-Vance Administration immigration policies on schools, the workforce, and the broader economy.

CBS News: Rep. Ansari (D-AZ) On Skipping Inauguration
Rep. Ansari: "Well, I would also love to see lawmakers work toward commonsense solutions that will make life easier for the American people and more affordable. I have not seen that thus far from my Republican counterparts and certainly not from the incoming Trump administration. My district sent me to Congress to fight for the families in our community, which includes a significant population of immigrant families. There are over 64 languages spoken in my district, with a majority Latino community. We also have a large LGBTQ+ population, and already the actions and executive orders we’ve seen from the administration show deep hatefulness, hostility, and anti-immigrant sentiment. So, I was happy to spend the day with my community, celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. But if Republicans are willing to work with us on issues like transportation and costs, I’m here to do so. However, I do not want to normalize a Trump presidency and the far-right attacks that we are seeing."
