WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) issued the following statement marking the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel:
“Today marks two years since October 7, 2023, a horrific day for Israelis, Jewish people around the world, and for all of humanity. It is the day the world watched as a monstrous Hamas terrorist attack against Israel killed more than 1,200 people and took 250 more hostage. I have met with the loved ones of some of these hostages and saw their fear and pain firsthand–no family should have to endure this torture.
“In the aftermath of that devastating day, the Netanyahu government has conducted a gruesome war that has left tens of thousands dead and countless more starving. This collective punishment has shocked the conscience of the world. The staggering loss of Palestinian life has done nothing to make Israelis safer or bring the hostages home.
“The bombing must stop and the war must end immediately. We must surge humanitarian aid for innocent Palestinians, secure the release of every hostage, and recommit to lasting peace—two states for two peoples with equal measures of stability and security.
“Today, my heart is with the families of the 48 hostages still held in Gaza and the victims of October 7. Hamas must return all hostages safely and immediately. I am thinking of families across the region who live in fear, in hunger, in worry for their children’s safety every day. We must reject hate in all its forms. Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Palestinian racism have no place in our country or our politics. Grief must never be used to justify hate.”
