Ansari Named Ranking Member of Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee

WASHINGTON—Today, Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) was voted Ranking Member of the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee of the House Natural Resources Committee for the 119th Congress. She will also sit on the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

“Just days into Donald Trump’s second term, we’re already seeing a wave of Executive Orders that have devastating consequences for Arizonans and communities across our country,” said Rep. Ansari. “The decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement and halt funding for the Inflation Reduction Act is a direct attack on the progress we’ve made in addressing the climate crisis and investing in clean energy. As Ranking Member of the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee, I am fully prepared to lead the charge in fighting back against this destructive, pro-polluter agenda.”

The Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee oversees energy development and mining activities on public lands and federal waters. With nearly a quarter of the country’s carbon pollution coming from fossil fuel development on these publicly owned resources, America’s public lands and waters are a critical part of the climate solution. Agencies under the Subcommittee’s jurisdiction include the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the United States Geological Survey and the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.

The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee has jurisdiction over each agency and program overseen by the full Committee. Committee Democrats will work to root out waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption that degrade resources, fact-check claims used to undermine bedrock environmental laws, and investigate the sources and impacts of climate change.

“From the rugged coastlines of Maine to the desert canyons of Arizona, the ancient redwoods of California to the pristine watersheds of Maryland, I am proud to see this talented slate of hard-working public servants reflects the very landscapes and communities we’re fighting to protect,” said House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Huffman. “The Natural Resources Committee is a critical bulwark against Donald Trump’s extreme Project 2025 and his relentless crusade to hand over our most treasured resources to the highest bidder. This team is prepared to counter Trump’s ’drill, baby, drill’ agenda at every turn and fight back against the GOP’s attempts to dismantle environmental protections and public health safeguards.”
